Boys & Girls Club of Mississippi Valley

A Letter from our Executive Director - April 2, 2020

Dear Community Stakeholders and Leaders,

Many of you may be wondering about the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley’s response plan to COVID-19. We have been actively monitoring the situation for weeks and have been contingency planning in preparation of our community being strongly impacted by the outbreak.

Serving those young people who need us most has been a guiding principle of our work for 26 years. Currently, this looks different in our community. In order to slow the spread of the virus, it is crucial that kids stay home. Therefore, in keeping with public safety standards, our club sites are closed. Our staff remain committed to providing comprehensive and impactful programs to our members and we have been delivering programs in a virtual format. Our staff are also engaged in program planning to be delivered when our club sites re-open and for summer programming. Besides virtual programming, we have been exploring creative ways through social media and telephone contact for staff to remain connected with Club members that are not being served at our club sites currently.

How Can You Help?

At this time, we are unsure of the exact financial impact these circumstances will have on our mission. We do know we had to postpone our annual campaign and Great Futures Breakfast which was expected to raise $30,000 for our mission. We do know that we expect our expenses to remain the same, if not greater, these next six weeks, even while our revenue is drastically decreased. We do know that we will need your help during this unprecedented time and as we resume normal operations in the future.

Please consider investing in our mission, now more than ever. At our Great Futures Breakfast, we planned to launch a monthly giving campaign to provide a consistent foundation for the work we do. I would ask you to consider a monthly gift by clicking on the Donate Now button above and investing in this life changing work. We have options for individual, recurring, and corporate giving.

This community is my home and as a community we will get through this together. Please continue to visit our webpage for updated information for our families and community.

Sincerely,

Torri Smith

Executive Director

Support GREAT FUTURES for QC Kids & Teens

  • Boys & Girls Clubs don't just do one thing, we do whatever it takes to build great futures for America's young people.

  • There is no silver bullet to success. It takes an army of people, a safe environment, high-quality programs and unique experiences to level the playing field for all kids.

Boys & Girls Clubs is a comprehensive youth development program that provides after school and summer programming for all youth ages 6-18. Our organization serves over 700 youth per year at four locations in Moline, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Boys & Girls Clubs prepares members for the 21st century workforce, gives them a safe place to go after school with positive adult mentors, gives a voice to the next generation, and gives the tools needed to fight the cycle of inequity.
